Are we relying too heavily on medications to treat distressing behaviors? Are there other options?

In honor of National Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, we welcome you to a FREE breakfast and FREE CE educational event!

Please join True Care Home Health Care and Inspired Memory Care for a Continuing Education Event & breakfast.  All professionals are welcome to attend.  Social Workers will receive one contact hour of continuing education credit.

We will discuss evidenced-based non-pharmacological approaches to minimize or eliminate distressing behaviors.  Participants will explore distressing actions and expressions within the framework of communication.  Presenters will share case studies in which non-pharmacological approaches have brought a voice, purpose and meaning to an individual.  We will learn how exploring the root cause of distress can help support an individual with a memory loss to have a more meaningful life.

Presenters: Nettie Harper and Kelly Gilligan

Date: Thursday, November 30th

Time: 7:30am Sign-in, Breakfast and Networking

8:00a-9:00a CE Event

Setting a Humanistic Framework for the Treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia

Participants will learn current research about societal perception of and bias about the geriatric population, and its implications in various care settings. The course will explore the meaning of a “humanistic” approach to health care and the role of the interdisciplinary team in creating a meaningful experience for clients and families. Participants will learn strengths that tend to remain intact late into the progression of many diseases that cause dementia, as well as methods for incorporating those strengths into the daily care-partner experience to support an active and purposeful lifestyle beyond diagnosis (2.0 Contact Hours – General Social Work).
